What makes Lee House Farm Ewes, Lambs & Mutton so special?
Our breeding flock of mixed-breed ewes, all fully organic and certified with the Organic Food Federation.
200+ breeding ewes who we select for their ease of lambing and good mothering ability.
The ewes spend all year grazing lush organic pastures - we are lucky enough to have a mixture of clay & sandy soils, so they can graze most of the year.
All our sheep are grass fed, sometimes we provide them with extra feed which is our home-produced silage or hay - all produced on the farm from our organic grass - grown, cut, wrapped & fed by us.
If the weather is kind to us, we like to lamb the ewes outside a bit later in the year. This means the ewes can select the spot they want to lamb in - we don’t like to disturb them unless we have to help out. If the weather isn’t so great, we bring the ewes in to large straw-filled sheds to protect them from the elements!
We don’t wean the lambs until they seem ready. This is normally a good few months before the lambs become more independent and naturally ready to wean. It varies year to year - monitoring the flock and weaning when the time is right for them reduces stress to both lambs & ewes.
Our lamb & mutton goes to a small, local, family-run abattoir who we have used for years. We only process a few lambs a week, which are all butchered on the farm to your requirements.
Both lamb & mutton are seasonal - please do get in touch to find out what we have available.
Our mutton is selected from our ewes who have a had a good life with us, but maybe don’t make the grade for breeding anymore.
